The beach volleyball competition in the 3rd Mediterranean Beach Games “Heraklion 2023” started on Wednesday September 13th, with the qualifying rounds.

Six matches were played in the opening day of the tournament at the Karteros beach Sports Center and the final composition of the table for the group stage, which will be held tomorrow, Thursday, September 14th, was determined.

One match was played in the women’s and another five in the men’s, resulting in a total of five qualifiers (one in the women’s and four in the men’s). And they even had a strong African presence, with five out of six wins!

In the women’s competition, the Moroccan duo (Mahassine/Yakki) and in the men’s competition the teams from Tunisia (Ben Hassan/Gabsi), Algeria (Kallouche/Dekkiche – Ayoub/Omar) and Egypt (Azab/Farag) will continue. The… monotony of African victories was broken by Croatia, after the male duo (Zerlenika / Skorin) eliminated the Tunisians (Samoud / Lenglize).

The games made the 16 pairs in men and women, divided into four groups in men’s and women’s respectively. The groups were drawn up by their position in the world ranking.

On the second day of the beach volleyball competitions, on Thursday September 14th, (9.00 – 16.00), the two rounds of the eight groups (four in men and four in women) will be played and in the afternoon (18.00) the eight matches for the “16” phase of the competition will be held (four matches for men and four for women), in order to determine the quarterfinals.
