A “storm” of exciting matches, which offered a spectacular show in beach volleyball on Thursday September 14th for the 3rd Mediterranean Beach Games “Heraklion 2023” at the four courts of Karteros Beach Sports Center.
Of the total of 31 pairs (16 in men’s and 15 in women’s, after the Spanish team Moreno/Alvarez withdrew), which competed in the morning and afternoon group matches, 16 were eliminated, suffering two defeats, finishing in the last two places.
The 30 matches played went off without any particular surprises, as the favorites, judging by their ranking in the world rankings, beat their opponents by two wins and were the first to qualify directly for the quarter-finals.
The remaining 16 teams, who finished second in their respective groups, will play for the third time on Thursday afternoon, in a knockout match for the second phase.
This will determine the quarter-final pairings, with the matches scheduled for Friday September 15th.
On the Greek side, none of the four pairs participating in the event have secured direct qualification to the last eight.
The men (Dallas/Hatzinikolaou and Kanellos/Terzoglou) and the women (Matiou/Triantafyllidi and Paschalaki/Alexoglou) will play an extra match on Thursday to qualify for the quarter-finals, after they had one win and one loss in the group stage.
