Greece won seven medals (2 gold – 3 silver – 2 bronze) at the last day of beach wrestling at the 3rd Mediterranean Beach Games “Heraklion 23”.

The Greek athletes made 1-2 in two categories, in the +70cc with two very good friends Stefania Zachila and Katerina Pitsiava and in the men’s -90cc with Christos Samartsidis and Angelos Kouklaris.

It was Samartsidis who won the gold medal, as he was the wrestler who scored the last point in the final, which ended in a 1-1 draw. After the match he celebrated along with Kouklaris who stepped up to the second step of the podium.

In the bronze medal game, Croatia’s Tomislav Huder needed a few seconds to defeat Tunisia’s Sabri Mnasria and won the bronze medal 4-0.

The women’s +70 kg final, which also ended in a 1-1 draw, had only Greek athletes. Stefania Zachila was the one who scored the last point and celebrated the gold medal. Then she embraced her friend Katerina Pitsiava (silver medal) and they did the triumphal round together.

The bronze medal was won by France’s Angélique Gonzalez who beat Spain’s Maria Jose Ramirez Perdomo 3-2.

In the women’s -70kg medley was won by Spain’s Lydia Perez Tourino, an Olympic wrestler, who won 5-0 over France’s Manon Kury. The bronze medal was won by Athanasia Lygeri who defeated France’s Mathilde Guedon 0-3

In the final of the +90 kg event, the Syrian Omar Sarem won the gold medal, who defeated Apostolos Tsiovolos 3-2. The Greek athlete took second place.

During the short final of the category, Frenchman, Tariel Lashkhi, injured his left knee while leading 1-0. He continued the match after receiving first aid. However, he surrendered to Achilleas Chrysidis, who scored the last point in the final 2-2 and celebrated the bronze medal.
