Mother and daughter are one of Lebanon’s “pairs” in Beach Volley launched at the Karteros Beach Sports Center’s facilities at the 3rd Mediterranean Coastal Games!

Hamze Mirvette and Cheiykho Mirna. The names don’t reveal their relationship as mother and daughter, since the daughter has her father’s last name.

Mother is Hamze (born in 1977) and the daughter is Mirna (born in 2004) and although they are 27 years of age apart, they are connected by their love of the sport!

A love, for which they did not hesitate to pay out of their own pockets the expenses to come to Crete, since the Federation did not financially support them.

“We came here by ourselves . We paid for our tickets and accommodation. We are having such a good time here and we would … we would happily do it again even though it cost us a little more,” said the mum.

Daughter adds “the tournament is amazing and the facilities in Karteros are great. We are happy to experience all of this celebration.”

While on how special it is to play a match with her mother as a teammate she said:

“I may play with my mom, but in the game I forget about it. She’s just my other half in the in the field. I respect her in the match, just like I do when we’re at home together. There’s discipline and we communicate with… closed eyes. We’ve been playing together for 9 years and we enjoy every match. In fact, we don’t have a coach. My mother is my coach. Just like at home!”

The pair is moving forward with a five year plan. “In five years, when my sister turns 14, she will take over and we will play as a pair,” Mirna said.

“Yes, I will retire from playing then, but until then we still have… a way to go for new championships,” agreed Hamze, as the duo have won the Moroccan championship three times and concluded “my husband supports us and is our most fanatical fan. He wanted to join us in Crete, but he will watch the matches on TV”!
