On Wednesday , 13 September the curtain opens, on the Beach Volley at Karteros Beach Sports Center at the 3rd Mediterranean Coastal Games “Heraklion 2023”

This is a popular and highly impressive sand sport, which is one of the four of the event that is part of the Olympic programme.

The beach volleyball matches will be held from 13 to 16 September at the facilities of Karteros in Heraklion.

The difference between beach volleyball and indoor volleyball has to do with space, since in sand volleyball the two athletes cover the same space as the six athletes in the hall.

Each team has two players. Victory is decided in 2 winning sets. To win a set, a team needs to be the first to win 21 points, on condition that it has a two-point lead. In the third set, if necessary, 15 points will be enough, but still there must be a two-point difference.

The French dominated at the previous event in Patras (2019) winning the first (Bartelemi – Loicet) and the second place (Platre – Silvestre) men and the gold medal in women (with Chamerot and Zoupiter).

The second place in the women’s race was taken by Cyprus with Angelopoulou and Konstantinou, while the bronze medal for Greece went to the duo Arvanitis Karagouni.

In the most popular beach sport of the 3rd Mediterranean Coastal Games “Heraklion 2023” a total of 78 athletes participated.

There will be 42 male athletes from 14 countries (Andorra, Cyprus, Algeria, Egypt, France, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Morocco, Monaco, Portugal, Tunisia, Serbia. Kosovo) and in the women’s competition 36 athletes from 12 countries (Cyprus, Egypt, Spain, France, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Lebanon, Morocco, Slovenia, Serbia, Kosovo, Spain, France, Lebanon, Slovenia, Serbia).
