The medal is awarded as a token of confirmation of the success of the elite athletes in every competition and it is a symbol of recognition and appreciation.

The Organising Committee of the 3rd Mediterranean Beach Games “Heraklion 2023” made sure that these medals will not be forgotten in a drawer when the lights go out and everyone has returned back home, but a jewel that will shine in a showcase in the homes of their new owners, instead.

As in all events on one side of the medal, the obvious choice was to depict the logo of the Games, which in our case is the two dolphins that unite the athletes of the three continents, as well as the International Committee of Mediterranean Games logo.

The second side depicts one of the most characteristic symbols of Cretan culture, and the most important exhibit of the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion: the Phaistos Disc!

The disc was discovered on July 3, 1908, by the Italian archaeologist Luigi Pernier. It was found in the Minoan city of Phaistos and dates back to the second BC. Millenium. The contents of the Disc have not been deciphered, while the purpose of its manufacture remains unknown.
