Cretan Beach Sports Tournament
The clock is ticking…
Less than a year remains until the opening ceremony of the 3rd Mediterranean Beach Games, which will be held in Heraklion in September 2023. An event that will bring together hundreds of athletes, coaches, officials and visitors from the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games 26 affiliated NOCs and will make the city the epicentre of the international beach sports community.
As part of the preparations for this great event, the Local Organising Committee and the Municipality of Heraklion, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the National Sports Centre of Heraklion (EAKH), have planned to stage in October 2022 the 1st Cretan Beach Sports Tournament at the state-of-the-art National Beach Sports Facilities of Karteros.
Karteros Beach Sports Centre is Greece’s “home” of all sand sports and the Tournament is only one of various activities that will take place in the build-up to the 3rd Mediterranean Beach Games “Heraklion 2023”.
The Tournament includes:
- Beach Volleyball Tournament, October 14-16, 2022
- Beach Soccer Tournament, October 14-16, 2022
- Beach Handball Tournament, October 14-16, 2022
- Beach Basketball Tournament, October 24-26, 2022
Eligible teams may register until 11 October 2022 (except for the Beach Basketball Tournament with the deadline set at October 21), by completing the following online form:
All matches will be played under medical supervision and will be refereed by official judges.
From its inauguration the Karteros Beach Sports Centre, has staged a large number of events such as the Senior and Junior Beach Handball World Championships, the National Junior Beach Volleyball Championships as well as other non-sporting activities and events.
The country’s largest, state-of-the-art Beach Sports Centre is available for any kind of sporting activities and is accessible to all citizens. It holds four large main courts and a training ground, meaning it can host more than one event from different sports at the same time.
Altogether, the State, Local Authorities and trade and industry bodies as well as the sports family, are working intensively in full cooperation so that the 3rd Mediterranean Beach Games “Heraklion 2023” will be an unforgettable event.
